We took a trip to Williamsburg for a little mini-vacation. We were gone for 3 days, but the back of the Tahoe was completely full!
On Thursday, we headed to Water Country USA, which is a large water park that is part of the Busch Gardens/Sea World Corporation. The boys loved it there! We hung out at the kid pools for the majority of the time. I tried to do as little walking around as possible, but I was SO tired by the time we left.
I didn't take any pictures of the boys in the pool or on the water slides, because I didn't want to get my phone wet. They went down some of the bigger slides with Kris and of course, loved it!
Around 4 p.m., we headed to our hotel to rest for a bit. Then, we hit up Pizzeria Uno for dinner. The boys were beyond excited to be staying in a hotel. They were a little disappointed we stayed on the first floor and didn't get to ride the elevator.
After dinner, we went down to Center City (kinda like a town square). There are lots of restaurants and shops. We enjoyed some ice-cream at Maggie Moos.
Kale finished his ice-cream early and was too "cool" to hang with his family. He went over to a nearby bench and laid down to people watch. He was not far from us...I could still easily see and reach him, but he was far enough away that people walked by and did a double take. I could tell some of them were thinking, is that four-year old alone???
We walked off our ice-cream with a trip around some cool fountains. We were pretty terrified the boys were going to fall in the water.
After that, we headed home for bed. The boys got in bed around 8:30, which is later than usual for them, plus they hadn't had naps and had been very active that day. Kale slept in one bed, Liam slept on a pallet in the floor, and Kris and I slept in another bed. The next day, Kale slept in until 7:30 and Liam made it until 8 a.m. This is the latest my children have ever slept!!! It was amazing!
The next day, Kris took Liam to Busch Gardens, while I took Kale to the Living Museum in Newport News. I knew there was no way I could make it walking around Busch Gardens for hours.
Kale and I enjoyed the Living Museum. There were several exhibits in which you could actually touch the living things. They also had a large outdoor area for viewing otters, raccoons, fish, turtles, etc. We went to see a special dinosaur exhibit that was there, but Kale was terrified, so we didn't stay long...he literally screamed and ran the other direction. Guess we are not into dinosaurs yet.
The Living Museum also had various exhibits that were similar to a children's museum and encourage interactive play by little ones. Here, Kale is unearthing fossils in the sand.
That evening, we made a switch and Kale and Kris went to Busch Gardens; Liam and I enjoyed a special dinner date, some time in the hotel pool, and a special movie with popcorn in the hotel room before bed.
The next day, we planned to go to Yorktown Beach, but it was raining and overcast and I think the high was in the low 70's. We bypassed the beach and headed to the outlet mall. The Williamsburg outlet mall is amazing, however, this weekend was crazy! It was tax free, plus rainy, so tons of people were there! I managed to hit up a few stores to get some school clothes for the boys, but we didn't stay long before heading home. Overall, it was a fun trip. 3 days is about the right amount of time to be away from home at this point in time. Trips with little ones are exhausting!!
